Guide to the unexplored

The desire to know what lies beyond the horizon is an integral part of human nature. Had this not been the case, the MacAskill brothers would most likely never have rowed across the Atlantic in the early 1800s, before founding the Talisker distillery on the rugged coastline of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Furthermore, our very own Scandinavian author, adventurer and archaeologist Thor Heyerdahl would probably never have pushed his Kon-Tiki raft out from its berth in Peru, chasing the dream of reaching Polynesia by crossing the Pacific.

The MacAskill brothers and Heyerdahl have one thing in common: their innate curiosity and courage to set a course for the unknown. In principle, we all have the freedom to do this. As Scandinavians, adventure awaits in our very own back yard, enveloped in gorgeous nature, rough coastlines, white mountain peaks, bottomless dark fjords, and deep forests.

The audacity and spirit of adventure possessed by the MacAskill brothers has long since become part of the Talisker DNA, and it is also the source of inspiration for the Scandinavian Detours concept and guide to the outdoors. We have allied ourselves with a select group of the most exciting adventurers in Scandinavia, who have helped us scout out the most amazing locations in the region. Our dream is that Scandinavian Detours will spark a sense of adventure inside you, making you strap on your hiking boots, pack your bag and set a course for new incredible experiences in the wild. We also hope that the guide will inspire you and provide new and tangible ideas.

We say that Talisker is made by the sea.

The time has come to show what you are made of.

Gourmet food and luxury tents

Last year, Talisker served up a treat in the shape of Swedish chefs Joel Åhlin and Filip Fastén from the restaurant Agrikultur in Stockholm. Together, they created a unique culinary experience in the wild in both Denmark and Sweden. The concept returns this year. And this time, all Scandinavian lovers of gastronomy and the great outdoors can try a glamping experience in the Stockholm Archipelago, on the island of Fejan. Here, Danish chef sensation Mikkel Karstad will prepare gourmet food in the open air, and the experience also includes a guided hike in some of Sweden's most beautiful scenery and an overnight stay in a luxury canvas tent. Tickets are limited, so book well in advance, and get your once in a lifetime experience!

MADE BY THE SEA

In 1825, Hugh MacAskill of Eigg acquired Talisker House and the north end of the Minginish peninsula on the rugged, beautiful Isle of Skye. Five years later, he and his brother had built what was to become one of the world’s most popular distilleries on the shore of Loch Harport. Talisker is a Single Malt Whisky made on the shores of Isle of Skye, one of the most remote, rugged, yet beautiful landscapes in Scotland. Few whiskies tell the story of their origins better than those crafted at this distillery. Talisker’s smell and taste instantly connect you with the wild and stormy Isle.
